Port Fairy Folk Festival
New Pro Shop 2019
So, what does an Iconic 44-year-old Music Festival and the Port Fairy Golf Links have in common? It’s a lot more than you may think…
Since 1977 the world-renowned Port Fair Folk Festival has been drawing visitors from around the globe to our picturesque town to witness some of the greatest local & international artists the world has to offer. Tens of thousands of people arrive in Port Fairy on Labour Day weekend to experience all the colour and excitement that our town has to offer in 3 days of celebrations and joy. If you’ve never seen this show before, it truly is a must-see spectacle to behold.
As one could imagine, it takes a lot of planning and manpower to host such a massive musical and artistic affair. Every year the Folk Festival Committee must call on the Port Fairy community to volunteer their time and skills to assist in the planning and construction that is literally months in the making. Marquees must go up; bars must be staffed, and visitors must know where to turn and be made to feel welcome. This is precisely where the Port Fairy Golf Links enters the story.
For decades many of the Port Fairy Folk Festival volunteers have been members of the Port Fairy Golf Links. Literally dozens of our golfers have driven forklifts, stacked chairs, set up tents, carried clipboards and ensured that this world class event gets the recognition it has earned and maintains as a must attend occasion showcasing the world’s finest artists.
In acknowledgement of this partnership, the Port Fairy Folk Festival is giving back to the community in which it lives by not only being a Major Sponsor of the Golf Club but also donating generously to the Links. On Saturday the 3rd of June, John Young (Folk Festival President) along with a strong contingent of committee members and volunteers, presented Port Fairy Golf Club with a cheque for $50,000 to go toward the recent renovation of the Clubhouse and Pro Shop. An unbelievably generous and enormously appreciated gesture that proves “The Folkie” cares so much about the town and the people that are the heartbeat of its being.
Thank you Port Fairy Folk Festival. We would not be the same without you and your support.
