Stuart Appleby teams event for juniors, Kingston Heath 16 December.
As reported by Pat Grant.
On an overcast Tuesday with a Sou-westerly breeze blowing off the bay, two Port Fairy teams fronted up for the ultimate golfing challenge.
The course was in immaculate condition with fairways the best I have seen in Melbourne, the greens were fast and true with a number of pins cut devilishly close to the front edge.
The competition was a modified par format (Joanna Flaherty had a +3 for a birdie on the 18th).
Both teams performed creditably but finished well back from the leaders.
The Yarra Yarra team won the day with +17. Team 2 finished on +5 with James Grant +3 and nearest the pin on the 10th.
Marcus Wilkinson +3, Dean Cady-Ellis -1 and Xavier McCartney -5.
Team 1 finished with +5. Joanna Flaherty having a great round with +5, Michael Anderson -1, Nelson Williams -3 and Matt Daly-6.
A wonderful day was capped off with a speech and presentation of prizes by Stuart Appleby as well as making himself available for photographs and autographs for the juniors.

Port Fairy Team Wins Astrid Holm Cup again.
The welcome rain had the effect on disrupting competition during the past week but not the Astrid Holm Cup played at Camperdown on 12 December.
The winning Port Fairy team with a score of 54 points comprised Annette Learmonth, Anne Eccles, Merle Rantall and Di Greaves, all thrilled to win the cup as it is the second year in succession that a Port Fairy team has won.
Twilight Cup
The "Twilight Corporate Cup" has also suffered with the weather with the second round being played last Friday evening.
94mm of rain has now fallen on the two rounds of the event played. This has not detracted from the game of junior Michael Anderson or senior Geoff McClaren both with best nett scores.
The next round will be played on Friday 16 January.
Christmas Cake winner
Please note that the winner of the Christmas cake made for the club by Vi Fenwick was won by Leon Cook.
